How A Can Key Safe Give You Back Up Access
Key safe arrangements can make it far easier for you to gain access to your property should you lose the original house key, and they can do so with only a slight increase in the risk of an intruder breaking in. The unit can be stored in any place which can be accessed without the keys themselves, including outbuildings and garden sheds, and it can easily be concealed due to its small size and light weight. The entry systems to modern units can make it as easy as possible for authorized personnel to gain access when needed, but put up a virtually impenetrable barrier to those who should not have access.
Key safes are extremely useful in both commercial and domestic situations, although their use should be minimized as far as possible. It is too easy for someone to forget to lock the safe properly, or to forget to return the keys after a job has been done, for the use of these safes to be recommended as part of the routine workings of a business. Safes such as this should be kept for their intended purpose, which is to provide a back up emergency access to a building or storage unit should the original set of keys be lost or stolen.
In a domestic situation a safe which can store keys is ideal for anyone living alone who has no family living close by. Someone in this situation will have no obvious place to store a key to their property in case the original keys were lost or stolen, and they could be in serious trouble if they were attacked in the street or if they were locked outside in extremely cold weather. Some kind of back up system is always needed in any situation such as this, and a safe with digital or numeric entry is one obvious way to remove the danger of being left outside with no means of entry.
There are two considerations which are vitally important in keeping your key safe arrangements as safe as possible. The first of these is to make sure the safe is as well concealed as it can be, and this is easier in some cases than others. If you have a shed or outbuilding in the garden area, or even a locked building outside of the main house, it should be relatively easy to hide the unit so that any casual intruder will be unlikely to find it. It will be harder to conceal it on an outside wall, but it can still be hidden behind an apparent electrical or water fitting.
The other vital consideration is to make the unit as difficult as possible to remove from the place where it is located. This can be done relatively easily in most cases due to the size of the unit. You need to prevent as far as you can the possibility of a potential intruder removing the safe so they can work on it off site to remove the keys, and then returning to burgle the property with no need to break and enter. If the unit can be molded into the wall or floor so much the better, but if not a tight fitting can still be made.
This aspect of protecting a key safe means that installation is vitally important. Don't be in a rush to take advantage of special pricing on the unit itself if the installation is not included, or if there is no obvious way of having the installation carried out. It will be better to pay a higher price from an established retailer and know that the unit will be fitted professionally, and the extra money will be well worth paying for peace of mind with your key safe.
